Fortress Manufactured Table Tops – Wood Veneer with Mahogany stain

Wood is a natural material which exhibits variations in grain, texture and color. Finished products may vary from sample to sample and an exact match cannot be guaranteed. Natural aging and exposure to light will also change the color of finished wood. Printed colors may vary – actual samples are available upon request. Oak Street Manufacturing uses Red Oak, Flat Cut, Plank-Matched veneer.

• It features the bold, arched “cathedral” grain of plain-sliced red oak, assembled from carefully selected, varying planks to create a rustic, multi-board appearance.
• Plank matching arranges dissimilar leaves (varying in width, color, or grain) in a specific order. This method replicates the look of individual solid wood planks joined together, giving it a highly authentic and slightly rustic appearance.
  • “Consistently inconsistent” is a good way to describe plank match because patterns to not repeat.

A stain match in a natural product is almost impossible unless the lighting is exactly the same, humidity is the same, sanded in the exact same way, same finish and the wood was harvested from the same area at the same time. Oak Street has no way of duplicating all those variables to the level to achieve an exact match. That’s why every wood table top company has the same disclaimer about stain matches. No two pieces of wood stain the same even with the same stain. Variables:

• Temperature – wood will stain differently in the summer than the winter
• Humidity
• Where the wood was sourced from
• Soil it was grown in
• How it was sanded (veneer is sanded even before Oak Street receives) and it may be sanded slightly different from one person to the next.
• Age of stain – ex. 2yr old tables will have naturally changed over time from when they were originally received (UV light, cleaning over time, etc.).

Special note of caution: all wood products are sensitive to humidity. It’s the customer’s responsibility to maintain a 30% humidity level to accommodate wood products, including table tops. Special care is required for venues utilizing overhead doors due to fluctuating humidity levels.
